Epic trip of 2015: part II, Venice

We had arrived in Venice with an extra day before we needed to board our cruise ship.
I'm so glad we did, Venice was one of my favorite spots on the trip.

Venice is beautiful.

We took the bus from our hotel to the northwest end of the city, which is the only spot that ground vehicles are on the whole island.
3 euros round trip, not bad.
It was a foggy, slightly chilly day.
But it was a Friday, and wasn't crowded, loved it.

{gelato must happen when in Italy}

We made our way to St. Mark's Basilica. It was one of the coolest buildings I've ever seen. It was covered in incredibly detailed and color saturated mosaics.

The large courtyard in front of the basilica was set up for a graduation ceremony that I suppose was happening later that day.

You have to pay to go upstairs, but it's very worth it.

{detailed restoration work going on}

Venice had mask shops all over.

We took the bus back to our hotel, got some pizza and kabob from one of the only surrounding food places and relaxed.

In the night our phones started going off from people worried about us and we found out about the Paris terrorist attacks that had happened that evening.
Scary stuff.
